A 15-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her brother and elder sister in the Hajamchora village of Jamnagar district in Gujarat, India, during a Navratri ritual. The siblings believed that their younger sister's death would prevent the untimely death of a family member. The girl was beaten with a wooden stick, stabbed with a knife, and repeatedly banged her head on an iron cot. The siblings were arrested and charged with murder Navratri is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the goddess Durga and other deities such as Saraswati and Lakshmi. The festival spans over nine nights and is celebrated with fasting, prayers, and the adoration of symbolic clay pots called garbo. The festival is celebrated in various ways across India, with Gujarat being one of the states where it is a major festival. The festival has been an occasion for performance arts, particularly Hindu temple dances such as Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.
