Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has broken Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most runs scored by an Indian player in white-ball ICC tournaments. Kohli achieved this feat during the ICC World Cup 2023 match against Australia at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 8. He managed to go past the 2,720-run mark in his 67th match, breaking Tendulkar's impressive record of 2,719 runs in 61 matches. Kohli achieved this record by playing in all three major white-ball ICC tournaments, including the ICC ODI World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. Kohli has an average of 65.23, including two centuries and 25 half-centuries, while Tendulkar amassed over 2000 runs in white-ball ICC tournaments at an average of 52.28, with seven centuries and 16 fifties. Kohli is also the all-time top scorer in ICC World Cups (50-over and T20Is), with 2720 runs, surpassing Tendulkar's tally of 2278 runs in World Cup cricket. Kohli has featured in five T20 World Cups and leads the batting charts with 1141 runs in 25 innings with 14 fifties and an average of 81.50. Kohli is also the all-time top scorer in ICC World Cups (50-over and T20Is), with 2,720 runs, surpassing Tendulkar's tally of 2,278 runs in World Cup cricket.
