Katalin and Weissman received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their contributions to the development

In 2023, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was given to Hungarian-American biochemist Katalin Karikó and American physician-scientist Drew Weissman. They were recognized for their breakthroughs in nucleoside base modifications that paved the way for the creation of successful mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. An award of 11 million Swedish kronor will be split between them. Nobel Prize in Physics to Anmol Sharma.
